WELCOME TO THE HAPPING FESTIVAL 2009

Welcome to the third Happing Festival, with events all the way from May to September.

This year to celebrate the opening of the Festival we have a Gala weekend of events. On Friday 8th May you can see “The Wrong Woman” and Alfred Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps” at Stalham Town Hall. On Saturday 9th May you can enjoy a workshop with The Locrian Ensemble, followed by their wonderful “Mozart by Candlelight” concert at St Helen’s Catholic Church in Hoveton. We are also continuing to help support events in various village venues. Partner Village Events this year include John Cadman’s Guitar and Lute concert in Sea Palling, a visit by Keith Skipper to East Ruston and Peter Frank’s All Star Dixieland Jazz Band evening concert in Ludham.

Our popular Midsummer Morning Walk in June, Happing Artists Gallery and Young People’s Drama Workshops in August all return this year. These events are growing substantially thanks to the support of their local communities. In other words – yourselves. Throughout the Festival this year we are featuring a Local History Project in conjunction with Stalham High School and local historian Neil Storey. Look out for their stand at your local event and join us in this exciting two year project.

To close the Festival we have another gala weekend. On Friday 4th September there will be a showing of the independently made film “Peter Warlock: Some Little Joy”, preceded by a talk from the film’s Director Tony Britten. The film was shot almost entirely in North Norfolk and Tony’s company Capriol Films is one of the few based in the county. On Saturday 5th September we welcome the internationally renowned Tippett Quartet to St Catherine’s Church, Ludham for an evening concert of English music featuring Vaughan Williams, Elgar and Edmund Rubbra.

I think we are so lucky in the Happing area. There is a wonderful sense of community and so many local events to choose from. I do hope you will be able to join us in enjoying some of them. We look forward to seeing you there.
